C H R I S T M A S

As far back as I can remember my dad used to decorate for the holidays with Christmas lights. I remember him digging through the cabinet in the garage looking for those old brown paper bags full of the lights. The lights were the big ones...the C9's! So big. So bright and shiny. I remember one summer I got into dad's brown bag, pulled out the lights, stretched them all throughout the house before he got home work, and waiting for the look on his face when he got home to see them. Well, they apparently get hot and I ended up burning black spots onto the carpeting. But enough about that, let's move on to a fonder memory.

I remember helping hold the strings of lights while dad nailed them to the eves. I remember the sound of the hammer hitting the nails into the wood "tink-tink-tink-tink". I also remember the ditinct sound of that occasional 'miss' and the delicate screams like thunder as dad quickly stuck his thumb in his mouth and mumbled such uninteligable things...(kind of like the dad in the movie "A Christmas Story" as he swore profanely at the furnace).

I remember making the shape of a tree on the latace in front of the house. He had a bag with green lights just for that purpose. Then there was the Christmas tree inside. Those big, bright, shiny lights were just so awesome!

I have always loved lights! I always seem to find ways to have some up throughout the year. And now that I have my own family that shares in the love of decorating, it is more and more fun every year.

I probably have some pictures somewhere of years past, but in 2006 (when I was bitten by the animated lights bug) I have started taking more pictures. I will be posting them here for you to share.

Click on a year to the left to share in our lighting history! As we progress, we will be posting some videos too!

We sure hope you will come by and see our displays. We run 3 of them throughout the year: Christmas, Halloween and 4th of July. The Halloween and 4th of July shows will run daily for about 7-10 days before the actual holiday (I'm not putting all this stuff up and running it for one night).

The Christmas show runs from the first weekend in December until Christmas. Now remember, this is a "show", not just a bunch of blinking lights with music playing in the background. The show is about 10 minutes long. It features Christmas music where we can synchronize the lights to. In 2008 we added the feature of having a professional DJ (The Demented Elf) provide us with voiceovers for introductions and a little extra show magic.

That's about it. We decorate - you enjoy! Please stop by and say hello!     -The Monge's
